Omarchy Linux

The Chinese build of DHH's Arch + Hyprland desktop, and a seat on the upstream team.

Omarchy is the opinionated Linux desktop by DHH: Arch under the Hyprland window manager, incubated at 37signals, made for people who live in a terminal and work with agents. For users in China, OmarchyCN adds three things: a Chinese desktop out of the box, package sources that work on the Chinese network, and AI tools that run there. It is the downstream distribution I built for that.

The installer, the menus, and the key-binding guides are in Chinese from the first screen. Fcitx5 with Rime handles input, and CJK fonts are installed. The upstream [omarchy] repository is mirrored inside China and synced every six hours, with the original Cloudflare source as fallback. DeepSeek, Kimi, GLM, and MiniMax are wired in beside a local Ollama, and the AI toolchain, Claude Code included, installs in one step.

There are two ways in. A 5.9 GB ISO installs from scratch through a UEFI installer, in Chinese throughout, with an unattended option. An existing Omarchy converts with one command, and one command, omarchy cn revert, puts it back, because the state before the conversion is recorded. The site names the upstream baseline, the quattro branch of basecamp/omarchy, publishes the ISO's SHA-256, and signs the checksum list with a PGP subkey.

OmarchyCN went from nothing to a public release. Two days after launch it had close to ten thousand system downloads. The Omarchy team noticed.

Since July 2026 I have been the official Chinese maintainer on the Omarchy team. The seat covers Chinese localization, the Fcitx5 input path and desktop experience, the package sources and the install and update flow for the Chinese network, the integration of locally available AI tools and model services, and the OmarchyCN mirror, download service, and documentation. Each upstream release gets compatibility testing and patch maintenance on the Chinese side.

The changes that help everyone go back upstream. Chinese community issues and user feedback land with me, and the cross-language technical work between the Chinese side and the official team runs through the same seat. OmarchyCN itself stays an independent community distribution under the upstream MIT license; it is not an official Omarchy product.
